but not on grown women. She also counsels against miniskirts. Even if you’re
legs look great, miniskirts just don’t enhance a mature look. Also, some fads or
styles like baggy clothes never flatter your figure. Look for styles that
enhance, not hide, your shape. And never wear suntan-colored pantyhose.
Overalls, in particular, should stay on the farm. If you want to look sexy in a
country way, try a checkered shirt tied at the midriff above tailored jeans.
Instead of pigtails, try a ponytail. A single ponytail is flattering to most
shapes of faces and styles.
Socks are fine—as long as they match or complement your shoes and stay mostly
hidden by your pants. White socks with black shoes are out, as are knee-high
socks with short skirts, which look great on little girls and young teens, but
sad on mature women. Opaque tights, sheer pantyhose, and tanned (real or
cosmetic) legs are good choices for women.
The days of tie-dye shirts are over except for young, noveau hippies. Wear a tie
dye only if your child gives you one as a birthday present. Even then, wear it
only in private, at home. Bags, skirts, hats, and outfits in patchwork pieces,
however, along with tasteful peasant-style blouses, can look good on women of
any age.
Fur? Brightly colored rabbit fur is a no-no. In fact, high-quality faux
fur is better than real fur that is identifiable as coming from a rabbit.
