Selecting Hosiery
Pantyhose colors should tie
the outfit together.
For the
monochromatic look, dark pantyhose with a dark bottom and shoes is best.
However, don’t wear matching pantyhose unless your outfit is in a neutral color
or in beige, charcoal, navy, or black. Brightly colored hosiery is almost always
a mistake.
Choose nude or matching skin tone for the popular, trendy barelegged look. If
you want to wear sandals, use sandalfoot toe or toeless pantyhose.
Opaque tights with shorter skirts can flatter your figure by minimizing leg
size.
Your hosiery and shoe color should match, not contrast. No white hose with black
shoes! In fact, never wear white hose unless you are a nurse. Or a bride.
Sheer equals dressy. Wear sheer pantyhose for evening and semi-sheer for day.
Don’t wear dark or heavy opaque pantyhose with sleeveless or strapless dresses,
as they will make your legs look heavy.
Fishnets and hosiery with printed or knitted tattoos and designs are out if you
want to be stylish. These fads are best left to teenagers who are trying to find
their identity or proclaim their rebellion.
Pantyhose get runs, tears, and pulls. Don't spend too much money on them.
Bare Legs? Never! Some Options to Get the Look
Bare legs look youthful and sexy with sandals and skirts. If you want the bare
look, but feel your legs are less than perfect, here are some alternatives to
get the look:
-
Try a self-tanning solution,
either a lotion or spray on. Off-the-shelf varieties come with bronzers that
help you apply the solution evenly because you can see where its going. Just
remember to exfoliate first by scrubbing and shaving, then apply a
high-quality lotion to help your skin absorb the solution. Pay special
attention to the knees and feet, as it can look most artificial in these
areas. If possible, have a friend or spouse help you with the back of your
legs and knees. You can also get a sunless tan, or even the real thing, at a
tanning salon.
-
Use toeless pantyhose. This new
design goes beyond the sandlefoot toe, which has no visible seams at the toe
but still covers the toes. Toeless pantyhose, in contrast, actually leave
your toes bare. The sheer hose cover your legs but are attached to your feet
by a thong-like piece. You’ll have to wear sandals with a strap to cover the
area where your bare foot and hose meet. Experiment with your shoes and
toeless pantyhose before going off to a special occasion to make sure they
work well together. Toeless hose come in a wide range of prices and are
available in many popular brands, like Hanes.
-
Explore the variety of sheer
pantyhose. Select a sheer pantyhose that is close to your natural skin tone.
Don’t wear pantyhose that are visibly darker or lighter than your skin.
Experiment with the super sheer lightweights. Silkies.com offers glistening
"Sun Oiled Sheen" pantyhose that make you look like you just got off the
beach. An amazing variety of sheer pantyhose options is available.
-
Play with leg makeup. It’s great
for covering up varicose veins, tattoos, and blemishes. Dermablend is one
company that offers products which it promises will go on smoothly over
moisturizer and not rub off. If you use leg makeup, just be sure you let it
dry before you get dressed.
