A Few Things to Look Out For
You would never intentionally
commit a fashion faux pas, such as wearing seamed hose with sandals, or white
socks with black shoes. But no matter what your intentions, you can be led
astray and fall into a fashion trap if you’re not vigilant.
Beware the fashion media. How could it be a mistake to keep up with all the
latest styles through fashion magazines, award shows, newspapers, and online
advertisers? Well, for one thing, you’re exposed to passing fads passed off as
fashion trends. Also, advertising hype seeks to make you believe that you’ll
look like the model if you buy the outfit. Surely you know by now that that
doesn’t work! Then, many companies will present an item as a “must have” or “our
most popular,” which may or may not be true, but even if it is, you should eye
it critically to decide whether it’s for you or not. Would it enhance your best
features? Does it go with the look you want? Don’t become a fashion victim. Be
realistic and true to yourself. Buy what you want within the price range you can
afford.
Avoid a motley wardrobe of clashing clothes. A mish-mash of outfits and
accessories that don’t go together can evolve because you buy individual items
with tunnel vision, not stopping to think about how they fit into your overall
wardrobe, or because you frequently buy odds and ends on sale. You might think
it’s harmless and even smart to buy on sale, but not if you can’t use it to
advantage later. Instead, plan your wardrobe. If you do, you will always have
something to wear.
Don’t get stuck in a style rut. Update your look! It’s easy to get in a rut,
especially if you’re busy or on a limited budget. There’s a lot of wisdom to
sticking with the classics, but don’t get too comfortable. You can at least
spiff things up with a new scarf now and then. It might add that touch that tips
the scales to fabulous.
Don’t breeze through the undergarment section. Get your foundation right.
Everything else is influenced by the infrastructure. If your basic foundation is
shapely, your outer clothing will follow suit. Try some body slimmer's and
gravity-defying bras or push-ups. See what a good foundation can do to enhance
your curves and eliminate lumps and bumps.
